Turning Tables: The Art of Table Dressing

For many, entertaining is a fear right up there with death and taxes. While we admire the masterwork of Martha (she is a glue-gun-goddess), few of us have the talent to stitch our own tablecloth or the time to cook-up an 8-hour broth. With that in mind, we’ve created an easy, cool and creative way to bring friends and family to the table.

STRIKE A POSE PARTY

This party is for Leo. No, not DiCaprio, but Da Vinci, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our favourite artist than by having our very own (Mona) Lisa create a super-delicious Last Supper, a masterpiece meal complete with easy decor ideas. Create your own “art scene” with this picturesque Art Party.

THE STEPS

1/ A roll of craft paper is great as a table runner, especially when you give guests doodling markers.

2/ Hit the dollar store for all your art supplies – you can get watercolor palettes, paintbrushes, easels, canvases and acrylic paint tubes.

3/ Instead of traditional place cards, sticker guest names on mini canvases and add a stroke of paint (our skill level) or go free-hand and create something avant-garde.

4/ Print out colour copies of your favorite works of art and place them on easels along the table.

5/ Screen Frida, Pollock or My Left Foot on the TV and create a Masterpiece Mix of tunes such as Vincent (Don McLean), Andy Warhol (David Bowie) and Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole).
